A new report came out recently related to the hermetic packaging market. I must confess that I haven’t actually seen the report myself, so cannot comment on how good it is. The cost is US$3,599 for a single user, so would most likely make sense for an industrial player making decisions in the space. A big trend in to reduce cost is use on near-hermetic packaging. But when only the best will do, hermetic is still the packaging technology of choice. A recent product announcement from optical networking company Oclaro highlights use of hermetic package for their newest high performance modulator components.
